Preschool Swim Lessons
Rancho Family YMCA Youth Swim Lessons
Preschool Swim Lessons are open to all children, ages 6 months-5 years. Classes are progressive, 30 minutes in length and taught year round. Refer to the descriptions below of our 5 distinct skill levels to find the class best suited to your child's ability. See descriptions and class schedules below.
Parent/Child (6 months-3 years)
In this class, parents will learn methods of working with
their child to encourage water adjustment, self-confidence, basic swimming
skills, and safety in and around the water. Children must wear swim diapers. One child per adult. Instructor to student ratio 1:10.Pre-Pike (Beginner, 3-5 years)
Requirements to enter this class: No prior swimming experience.Basic Class Curriculum: Water adjustment, front/back stroke, front/back float, putting face in the water and blowing bubbles. Instructor to student ratio 1:5.
Pike (Advanced Beginner, 3-5 years)
Requirements to enter this class: Must be comfortable in the water and able to put face in the water and blow bubbles.Basic Class Curriculum: Front/back/side stroke, front/back float, submerging face in the water and blowing bubbles. Instructor to student ratio 1:5.
Eel (Intermediate, 3-5 years)
Requirements to enter this class: Must be comfortable able to swim independently for 5 feet on back and on front with face in the water.Basic Class Curriculum: Freestyle (front stroke), Backstroke, front/back float, breath control, deep water orientation and build endurance. Instructor to student ratio 1:5.
Ray (Advanced, 3-5 years)
Requirements to enter this class: Must be comfortable able to swim independently for 15 feet on back and on front with face in the water and float on back independently.Basic Class Curriculum: Freestyle with side breathing, Backstroke, Sidestroke, breath control, diving and build endurance. Instructor to student ratio 1:5.
